By O‑Train Lines layer

Navigate effortlessly through Ottawa’s transit lines with the ‘By Lines’ layer. This feature allows you to view specific details about each O‑Train line, helping you understand routes and plan your travel efficiently.

How to use:

  1. Select a line: Tap the ‘Lines’ icon to see a list of all the O‑Train lines. Check the box next to the line you’re interested in to view it on the map.
  2. Get info: Click on any selected line to see a detailed panel at the bottom of the screen. This includes the line’s current status (like "Under Construction"), key updates, and direct links to a fact sheet and travel planner.
  3. Plan connections: Discover where lines connect, making it easy to plan journeys that span multiple lines.

What to expect:

  • Up-to-date info: Get updates on line statuses and construction progress.
  • Interactive map details: Explore routes by tapping on the map to see specific station information and more.
  • Customize your view: Filter which lines show on the map to focus on what’s most relevant to you.

Pro tip

Multi-line selection: Want to see how different lines intersect or plan a route that utilizes several lines? You can select multiple lines at the same time by checking more than one box in the ‘Lines’ menu. 

By O‑Train Stations layer

Discover detailed information about each station on the existent and future O‑Train network with just a few taps. Whether you need to find out about amenities, connections, or construction updates, the 'Stations' feature has you covered.

How to use:

  1. Access station information: Tap the ‘Stations’ icon in the toolbar. This opens a dropdown menu where you can select or enter the name of a station, like "South Keys."
  2. View details: Once a station is selected, a detailed panel will appear at the bottom of the screen. This panel shows:
    • The station’s current status (for example, "Under construction" or “In service”)
    • Links to fact sheets for lines connected through this station (e.g., Line 2 and Line 4)
    • Quick facts about the station such as new features, number of platforms, etc.

Pro tip

  • Simply click on any station directly on the map to see its information quickly.
  • Adjust which stations are visible on your map to focus on what matters most to you.

By O‑Train destinations layer

Unlock Ottawa’s full potential

Experience all that Ottawa has to offer, from bustling cityscapes to serene natural spots. Our ‘Destinations’ feature provides a gateway to explore every corner of the city easily by the O‑Train.

How to use:

  1. Select your destination: In the home page Tap the ‘Destinations’ icon, and choose from a list of key points of interest throughout the city, places like Ottawa Airport, Mooney’s Bay, and Parliament Hill. Choose one to get started.
  2. Discover how to get there: Once you select your destination, the map will zoom in to show you a close‑up, along with the line serving it. Additionally, a detailed information panel will appear, highlighting the line serving this location, nearby O‑Train stations, and their distances, ensuring easy navigation.
  3. Access useful links: For deeper exploration, access direct links to station and line fact sheets and the latest travel planners.

Pro tip

In the destination view, just click on any destination icon on the map to bring up the info panel and automatically zoom in for a closer look.

By parking layer

Easily locate car and bike parking at O‑Train and bus stations with our handy map features. Discover all the new free and paid parking options available along the new network. Plan your trip knowing where you can park your car or bike and explore all the new destinations the O‑Train opens up.

How to use:

  1. Choose car or bike parking options: Just tap the 'Parking' filter on the home page to see your options for both car and bike parking. Choose 'Park & Ride' for car spots or explore our range of bike storage choices, from secure spots to sheltered areas.
  2. Get instant details: Simply click on any Park & Ride location, and the map zooms in, revealing nearby transit lines and helpful parking details. Find out the number of free and reserved parking spaces, including info on Gold parking, accessibility spots, spots for expecting mothers, and bike areas.
  3. Customize your view: Filter the map to display only the types of parking spots you need—car parking, secure bike storage, or general bike racks.
  4. Use the map zoom: Zoom in on your home or workplace location on the map to unveil nearby parking options. This handy feature streamlines your commute by helping you find the perfect spot for your car or bike before hopping on the O‑Train, ensuring a seamless journey.

Pro tip

Find the quick links conveniently located at the bottom of the panel for easy access. Discover each Park & Ride location and learn about obtaining a Gold permit with just a click. Need details on transit lines? Simply return to the lines filter or click on the lines button within the parking panel.

Enhance your navigation experience by selectively adding layers of useful amenities and facilities directly on the O‑Train map. Whether you're looking for Wi‑Fi spots, washrooms, or EV charging stations, our layered approach helps you identify specific services across the network with just a tap.

How to use

  1. Open the additional layers menu: Click on the ‘Layers’ button on your home map screen to see a list of available options such as Pedestrian Bridges, Public Art, EV Charging Stations, and more.
  2. Select what you want to see: Select any layer and the map will display icons representing that specific amenity. This visual guide helps you see all the available locations for your chosen amenity across the network.
  3. Identify amenities on the map: Look for icons that appear on the map corresponding to the selected layer. These icons are designed to be visually distinct, making each amenity easy to identify at a glance.
  4. Plan better:
    • Use the icons you see to plan your route better. Knowing where amenities are can help you choose where to take breaks, charge your vehicle, or check out local art.
    • This view helps you get to know station layouts and the transit system, so you feel more at ease and confident while travelling.

1. Active O‑Train Lines: Easily check which O‑Train Lines are running

How to use:

  • Check On/Off: Simply check the "Show in service O‑Train Lines" checkbox to display only the active lines. Checking this box will hide any lines and stations that are still under construction.

Optimized for all devices:

Mobile visual:
Find this feature under the "Layers" section, accessible through the expandable menu at the bottom of the screen. We've optimized the toggle's placement to ensure it's always within reach, no matter the device.

Desktop visual:
The "Show in service O‑Train Lines" checkbox is conveniently located in the sidebar, allowing easy access from any screen.

Pro tip

On desktop, the active lines toggle remains accessible from all screens—including when you're exploring other features like stations, destinations, or Park and Ride. This allows you to continuously view active or all lines, enhancing your planning without needing to switch contexts.

Benefits:

  • Stay updated: Instantly view in-service lines and stay informed about the opening of new extensions, ensuring you're always in the loop.
  • Clear map view: Simplify your map view by focusing only on active lines, reducing clutter and improving map readability for easier navigation.

3. Dark mode view : Pick your favourite theme

Switch to Dark Mode for enhanced nighttime visibility and to reduce eye strain during low‑light conditions.

This setting adjusts the map and interface to a darker colour theme, making it easier on your eyes.

How to activate/deactivate:

  1. Open the settings menu by clicking on the gear icon.
  2. Locate the "Dark Mode" option and toggle the switch to the right. The interface will instantly switch to a darker colour scheme.

Benefits:

  • Comfort for your eyes: Reduces screen glare, lowering eye fatigue.
  • Better visibility: Improves contrast, making it easier to read in the dark.
  • Saves battery: May help conserve battery life on mobile devices due to reduced screen brightness.

How to use:

  1. Activate the location feature by clicking the location button, available at the top right of the map on both mobile and desktop.
  2. After enabling your location, click the share button to access sharing options.

Choose what to share :

  • Share the map: Copy and paste the map URL to share your current map view with friends.
  • Share your current position: Toggle the switch to share a link to your exact location.

5. Map settings: fine‑tune for you

Adjust the map settings to suit your personal preferences through the ‘Settings’ menu. Here, you can create a more tailored mapping experience.

 

Viewing options:

  • Satellite view: Switch to Satellite View for a real‑life aerial image of the landscape, ideal for those who prefer a more realistic depiction of their surroundings.

  • Dark mode: Activate Dark Mode to enhance map visibility during nighttime or in low‑light environments, reducing strain on your eyes and conserving battery life on mobile devices.

This panel also includes the legend with all the icons used on the maps and their meanings, for more intuitive and easy exploration. From this panel, you can open this page for tips and advice and to learn everything about this new feature.

Exit settings easily : Simply click outside the settings panel to close it and return to the map view. This allows for a quick and seamless transition back to your exploration.

How do I find stations or specific destinations on the map?

To find stations or specific destinations, use the search bar at the top of the map. Simply type the address, station name, or destination you are looking for, and the map will direct you there.

What are active O‑Train Lines?

Active O‑Train Lines refer to all train lines that are currently open and operational. These lines are highlighted on the map, providing you with real‑time information on which routes you can travel on right now.

Are there any tips for first‑time users of the map?

For first-time users, we recommend exploring the full‑screen mode to get an immersive experience. Familiarize yourself with the Active O‑Train Lines and use the Legend to understand the map symbols. Don’t hesitate to try different layers and views like the Satellite View for a customized navigation experience.

How do I enable Dark Mode?

Dark Mode can be enabled by toggling the Dark Mode switch found in the settings menu. This mode is designed to reduce screen glare and make the map easier to view in low‑light conditions, enhancing visual comfort during nighttime or in dark environments.

How often is the map information updated?

Our map data is updated frequently to ensure you have the most current information. This includes updates for operational lines, station statuses, and any changes in routes or schedules. You can find the update dates at the footer of the map.

Where can I find the map Legend?

You can find the map Legend, which explains the symbols and icons used on the map, in the "Settings" panel. This will help you navigate and understand the map's features easily.

What should I do if I encounter a problem or have feedback?

If you encounter any issues or have feedback, please use the 'Share your feedback or report an issue' link located at the bottom of the map interface. We value your input and strive to improve your experience continuously.

Why are the desktop and mobile versions different?

The desktop and mobile versions of our map are tailored to optimize usability and screen size. The desktop version offers a more comprehensive view and additional functionalities suited for larger displays, while the mobile version is designed for quick navigation and ease of use on the go, focusing on essential features that are best suited for smaller screens. This ensures that, regardless of your device, the experience is best matched to your needs and context.

What do I do if the map isn’t loading?

If the map isn’t loading, try refreshing the page or clearing your browser’s cache. If the problem persists, please contact our support team for assistance.

Why don’t other amenities (like ticket machines, fare gates, elevators, etc.) show up on the Interactive Map?

To keep the map clear and intuitive, we have limited the amenities displayed to those most essential to planning your O‑Train journey. These omissions help you easily access critical details without clutter. Please visit our station‑specific pages for more information about amenities such as ticket machines, fare gates, and elevators.

Why aren’t Bus Routes shown, and why are there links to the Travel Planner and Transit App instead?

The layout of the O‑Train X Interactive Map provides a focused and efficient tool for navigating the O‑Train system. We recommend using our travel planner or the Transit app for comprehensive transit planning, including bus routes. These platforms offer solutions for all modes of public transit, ensuring you have the most accurate information for your entire journey. You can access the travel planner and download the Transit app.
