Date: September 23, 2024
To: Mayor and Members of Council
Chair and Members of the Transit Commission
From: General Manager, Transit Services Department
This memo is to advise the Mayor and Members of Council that there will be O-Train Line 1 service adjustments on:
- Sunday September 29 from 8 am to 12 pm; and on
- Saturday, October 5 for the entire service day.
As discussed at the September 12 Transit Commission meeting, this work is required as part of the integration of the Stage 2 O-Train East extension with the existing Line 1 system.
Adjustments to Line 1
For customers this means that on Sunday, September 29:
- Line 1 service will begin at approximately 12 pm, noon.
- R1 replacement bus service will start at 8 am, which is the normal start time for train service on Sundays and will operate between Tunney’s Pasture and Blair stations.
- R1 will continue to operate until 1pm with the last trips departing around 12:30 pm.
- In addition to R1, a shuttle bus service will run between St-Laurent and Cyrville stations and between Lees Station and Mackenzie King Bridge.
Additionally, on Saturday, October 5 customers can expect:
- Line 1 service will not be running.
- R1 replacement bus service will start at 6 am, which is the normal start time for train service on Saturdays, and will operate between Tunney’s Pasture and Blair stations.
- R1 will operate for the entire service day.
- In addition to R1, a shuttle bus service will run between St-Laurent and Cyrville stations and between Lees Station and Mackenzie King Bridge.
- Full Line 1 service will resume Sunday, October 6 at the normal start of service time.
To help transit customers make plans and stay informed, regular updates will be provided through a number of communications channels, including public service announcements, customer alerts, octranspo.com and social media. Customers can also use the Travel Planner or call 613-560-5000 to plan trips in advance.
Required Stage 2 Works
As noted above, on September 29 and October 5, East-West Connectors will be working to test and validate train control software that will integrate the Stage 2 O-Train East extension with the existing Line 1 system. This work cannot be completed during normal engineering hours. Residents may see trains operating on Line 1 during the service suspension as part of the testing work.
We appreciate that this work is disruptive to our customers and apologize for any inconvenience. We continue to work collaboratively with both East-West Connectors and Rideau Transit Maintenance (RTM) to minimize impacts to customers wherever possible.
As part of the sustainable solution, RTM will also be completing other work on Line 1 later this fall, which may cause temporary service adjustments. Further information will be shared as soon planning for these activities is complete.
If you have any questions, please contact Troy Charter, Director, Service Delivery and Rail Operations, at 613-580-2424 ext. 52160 or me at ext. 52111.
