Q2 2023 Lookahead: North Segment

North Segment

As part of the O-Train South Extension Project, crews continue to work through the spring. The following information is intended to provide a lookahead of scheduled activities and anticipated impacts in the north section of the alignment, from Bayview to the Ellwood Diamond Rail Bridge, until the end of June 2023.

What

Crews continue to make progress on the alignment:

Bayview Station – Permanent power will be energized in the station, station devices will be installed, and signage installations will commence. Shelters and fare gates will be installed.
Corso Italia Station – Station devices will be installed, and signage installation will commence. Shelters and fare gates will be installed.
Dow's Lake Station – Stair remediation will be a key focus during this quarter. Station devices will be installed, and signage installation will commence. Shelters and fare gates will be installed.
Dow's Lake Tunnel – Cable pulling will be underway, along with upgrades to the tunnel’s ventilation system.
Carleton University Station – Testing and commissioning of the station will be the main focus of Q2.
Rideau River Pedestrian Bridge and Rideau River Rail Bridge – Structures work will be underway on the pedestrian bridge and permanent handrails will be installed. Civil construction activity will be underway at both the north and south ends of the bridges.
Mooney’s Bay Station – Permanent power will be energized in the station and faregates and signage installations will be completed.
Ellwood Diamond Bridge and Approaches – Trackwork and cable tray installations will continue on the bridge. Permanent handrails and fencing will be installed during this period.

When

Work will continue to take place during daytime hours Monday through Sunday, weather permitting. Overnight work will occur in areas with approved permits. All instances of overnight work will be communicated prior to the work commencing.

Anticipated Impacts:

  • Traffic, pedestrians, and cyclists should watch for and adhere to construction signage on roadways and pathways.
  • Residences and businesses in close proximity to the work sites will experience noise impacts.
  • Overnight work will occur in areas with approved permits. All instances of overnight work will be communicated prior to the work commencing.

Accessibility is an important consideration for the O-Train Extension project. All pedestrian, cycling, bus, and vehicular movements will generally be maintained during construction, with some detours. Pedestrians and cyclists should use extra caution when localized detours are in place and adhere to all posted signage when travelling to ensure safety, as patterns may have changed. Accessibility is an important consideration for the O-Train Extension project. The O-Train Extension team makes every effort to provide access through and around construction sites.
