We continue to see significant progress being made across all three O-Train Extensions in 2024. Several key milestones have been achieved this year:

  • Receiving the Substantial Completion Certificate and conducting final readiness activities on O-Train South Lines 2 and 4 before service launch.
  • Expanding testing on the O-Train East Extension from Blair Station to Trim Station
  • Completing structural work on the cut and cover tunnels on the O-Train West Extension.

O-Train South Extension

Steps towards the opening the South Extension are continuing to advance. Trial running wrapped up successfully on October 27, and a month later, on November 26, the Independent Certifier issued the Substantial Completion Certificate. With these important milestones achieved, the focus is now on the final preparations before Lines 2 and 4 are officially opened. On November 30, a dress rehearsal simulated in-service conditions, giving us the opportunity to monitor the system with passengers and allowing for fine-tuning of operating procedures and training before the system opens. On December 6, a technical briefing will be held where we’ll dive deeper into what’s next for the opening of Lines 2 and 4.

O-Train East Extension

On the O-Train East Extension, systems integration and station construction continues. There is still a lot underway at all the new stations, including testing, commissioning, and applying final finishes. In the new year, residents will notice more testing on the line from Blair to Trim stations.

In early November, a successful emergency exercise was conducted. This involved Ottawa Police, Ottawa Paramedics, Ottawa Fire, and OC Transpo staff coming together to test emergency response procedures and ensure the safety of passengers and the rail line in the event of an emergency.

Work also continues on the O-Train West Extension, including the Corkstown Yard Light Maintenance and Storage Facility (LMSF) along with all new 11 stations. In the fall, the first light rail vehicle was delivered to Corkstown Yard and an additional two more will be delivered by the end of the year. These vehicles will allow for train testing from Corkstown Yard to Moodie Station in the New Year. Work on the guideway and track installation also continues in the cut and cover tunnels.
