As part of the Stage 2 O-Train Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, crews and equipment will be working overnight along the LRT guideway alignment (former Transitway trench) between Queensway Transitway Station/Highway 417 to Algonquin Station. Overnight work at the Iris Station and Algonquin Station worksites may also be required.

Night work is required as work proceeds on bridges, structures, utilities, roads, and the LRT guideway. Overnight activities may include excavation and hauling, backfilling, concrete pouring, utility installation, welding, grading, paving, fueling, equipment maintenance and servicing, site housekeeping and snow clearing operations.

When:

KEV anticipates that periodic night work will be required and ongoing throughout 2025. Night work will occur subject to a valid noise by-law exemption, in addition to daytime activities on weekdays and weekends.

Night Work: Monday to Saturday 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. Sundays and Statutory holidays – will occur, as required, through March 2025.

Why:

To complete critical project work that is time sensitive and/or required during off-peak hours.

Anticipated Impacts

Noise and vibration from crews and heavy equipment can be expected.

Use of vac trucks, and hoe-ramming are only permitted during daytime hours.

All construction vehicles and equipment working overnight will be equipped with broadband back-up alarms. Trucks use approved haul routes and workers and contractors park in designated parking areas.

Site lighting for overnight work is required to maintain safe working conditions for workers. Light plants, generators and compressors are placed onsite as far away from neighbouring homes as possible and/or wrapped in Echo barrier.

All pedestrian, cycling, bus, and vehicular movements will generally be maintained during construction with some detours. Temporary multi-use pathway (MUP) closures may be required to allow for construction work to proceed safely.

Pedestrians and cyclists should use extra caution when localized detours are in place and adhere to all posted signage when travelling to ensure safety, as traffic patterns may have changed.

The City of Ottawa thanks residents for their patience as we work to complete these construction activities.

The safety of the public and workers is paramount, and we thank you for your patience during construction.
