Mid July- Notice of Upcoming Road Work: Richmond Road and Byron Avenue
As part of the Stage 2 O-Train Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, work will begin on the Richmond Road Complete Street Project as soon as mid-July. The Richmond Road Complete Streets Project is the final segment of the Stage 2 LRT work in the area along Richmond Road and Byron Avenue between McEwen Avenue and Cleary Avenue.

Motorists traveling on Richmond Road will be detoured onto Byron Avenue to facilitate the closure of Richmond Road between Allison Avenue and Sherbourne Road.
When:
The first phase of the traffic re-alignment will be implemented as soon as mid-July. Please note that construction schedules are subject to change.
Why:
To facilitate utilities relocations and the construction of the final Richmond Road alignment.
Where:
Byron Avenue, between Allison Avenue and Sherbourne Road.
During the project, both Richmond Road and Byron Avenue will undergo multiple reconfigurations. Future notices will be sent in advance of any changes.
This multi-year project will involve:
- Utility work including watermain, sanitary sewer, and stormwater sewer
- Complete and final coverage of the LRT tunnel
- Final paving of Richmond Road and Byron Avenue
- Construction of curbs, sidewalks, cycling facilities, multi-use paths, bus platforms and shelters
- Installation of street lighting, traffic signals, and signage
- Tree planting, landscaping and re-instatement of impacted properties and driveways
Please be assured that access to all businesses and residences will be maintained throughout the project. We will make every effort to work with stakeholders in the area to address concerns and minimize the impact of this construction where possible.
Accessibility is an important consideration for the Stage 2 LRT project. The Stage 2 team makes every effort to provide access through and around construction sites. If you require special accommodation, please contact stage2@ottawa.ca.
Motorists should adhere to detours, traffic control signage, posted speed limits, allow for added travel time and use extra caution when moving through active construction corridors as traffic patterns change.
The safety of the public and workers is paramount. Thank you for your patience during construction.
