The purpose of this memo is to inform the Mayor and Members of Council that based on progress and observations to date, OC Transpo is ready to expand service on O-Train Lines 2 and 4 to seven days a week, starting this Sunday, March 16.
The phased opening of O-Train Lines 2 and 4 began on Monday, January 6, with service five days a week, and was expanded to six days on Saturday, January 25. Throughout this process, OC Transpo has been closely monitoring the performance of all system elements to ensure a reliable, consistent and safe service for customers.
Since service was expanded to six days a week, significant progress has been made by OC Transpo and TransitNext on all system elements. This includes:
- Continuing to increase and stabilize staffing levels
- Operators growing their familiarity with operating trains in severe winter conditions
- Maintenance teams quickly and efficiently responding to disruptions
- Full fleet availability and more efficient completion of all maintenance activities
- Temporary upgrades to switch infrastructure to increase reliability during winter weather
- Continuing to improve the reliability of the customer information systems, like the next stop announcement and next departure times for trains
OC Transpo and TransitNext will continue to work collaboratively to ensure that lessons learned are quickly implemented to maintain improved service delivery for customers. Final construction works, like landscaping, are to be concluded in the coming months.
OC Transpo has achieved an important milestone and is pleased to provide seven-day service on O-Train Lines 2 and 4.
For customers it means:
- Lines 2 and 4 will continue to operate from 6 am to midnight Mondays to Fridays, and from 6:30 am to midnight on Saturdays
- Sunday service will begin on March 16 and will operate from 7:30 am to 11:30 pm every Sunday
- Existing parallel B2 bus service will continue until March 29. Route 97 will continue with no changes until April 27, when the New Ways to Bus network is implemented. Route 99 will be adjusted to serve Limebank Station on all trips, seven days a week.
- The Transit App and Travel Planner have been updated to help customers plan their trips.
