June 21-24 - Montreal Road at Highway 174 Interchange - Road and Ramp Closures, and Night Work

As part of the Stage 2 O-Train Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, motorists travelling on Montreal Road and Highway 174 at the Montreal Road interchange as well as residents whose homes are near Montreal Road, should anticipate impacts to traffic as crews complete necessary construction activities.

What:    
Weekend full closure of Montreal Road at the Highway 174 interchange, including some ramp closures.

The following ramps will be closed:

  • Highway 174 westbound on-ramp from westbound Montreal Road
  • Highway 174 eastbound on-ramp from eastbound Montreal Road
  • Highway 174 eastbound on-ramp from westbound Montreal Road
  • Highway 174 eastbound off-ramp at Montreal Road

When:   
Friday, June 21 at 7:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. on Monday, June 24.

Why:     
Drainage and electrical work, grading, flatworks, asphalt removal and paving, temporary concrete barrier relocation and line painting.

Where: 
Montreal Road at Highway 174 interchange.

The construction work outlined in this notice is subject to change. Work may be delayed or extended due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Local traffic west of the Montreal Road interchange, travelling eastbound on Montreal Road to eastbound Highway 174, will have to take the Highway 174 westbound on-ramp and travel west to Blair Road. They will then turn left and travel south on Blair Road to Innes Road, turn left on to Innes Road and travel east to Bearbrook Road. They will then turn left on to Bearbrook Road, and travel north until they reconnect to St. Joseph Boulevard.

Motorists travelling westbound on Highway 174, travelling to St. Joseph Boulevard west of the Montreal Road interchange, will have to take the Highway 174 westbound off-ramp and travel west on Montreal Road to Blair Road. They will then turn left and travel south on Blair Road to Innes Road, turn left on to Innes Road and travel east to Bearbrook Road. They will then turn left on to Bearbrook Road, and travel north until they reconnect to St. Joseph Boulevard.

Local traffic on St. Joseph Boulevard east of Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard travelling to Montreal Road will have to drive west on St. Joseph Boulevard to the traffic circle at Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard. They will drive north to connect to Highway 174 westbound and take the Montreal Road off-ramp to connect to Montreal Road.

Local traffic travelling westbound on St. Joseph Boulevard travelling to Montreal Road will have to turn left at Bearbrook Road. They will travel south on Bearbrook Road to Innes Road. They will turn right and travel west on Innes Road to Blair Road. Turning right they will travel north on Blair Road to Ogilvie Road. They will turn right and travel east to Montreal Road westbound.

Residents near the interchange can expect the following construction activities to take place:

  • Excavators, bulldozers, compactors, and pavers will be used for construction. Noise from equipment will be audible and some equipment may cause vibrations.
  • Trucks will deliver material to the site and haul material away. Noise from equipment and moving of material will be audible.
  • Asphalt will be laid which may result in audible noise and some vibration from equipment.
  • Site lighting and generators will be used to power lights which are a safety requirement for overnight work. Crews will place and/or direct the light away from residences to mitigate
    any impacts.
  • Night work is needed at times to accommodate work that requires traffic closures that cannot be done during the day, thus mitigating impacts on the travelling public.
  • Motorists should adhere to detours, traffic control signage, posted speed limits, allow for added travel time and use extra caution when moving through active construction corridors as traffic patterns change.
  • Pedestrians and cyclists should use extra caution and adhere to posted signage when localized detours are in-place to ensure safety.
