Status Update on System Preparations for O-Train Lines 2 and 4 |
Date | December 20, 2024 |
The purpose of this memo is to provide the Mayor and Members of Council with an update on the system preparations activities underway on O-Train Line 2 and 4 from December 13 to December
19. As outlined in Memo 50-2024, OC Transpo is currently conducting system preparations before the system opens in phases beginning on January 6, 2025.
Operations Update:
OC Transpo and TransitNext continue to operate all aspects of daily service, including launch and reduction of trains, maintenance of vehicles and related infrastructure. Onboard train signage installation, operator training and safety drills continued this week to prepare and ensure the system is ready and safe for customers.
Timetables for Saturday and Sunday service have been tested and are being validated to determine whether any small adjustments are needed before weekend service begins.
As part of communication and outreach efforts, Councillors and media participated in a familiarization tour of Line 2 and 4 earlier this week. Station and system familiarization for community groups also occurred this week and included participants from the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, National Capital Association for the Deaf and Vision Loss Rehabilitation.
System and Infrastructure Update:
TransitNext and OC Transpo continue to build the reliability of the Passenger Information Displays through iterative testing of software updates to ensure passenger information and announcement systems are ready for use.
TransitNext continues to work on stabilizing the reliability of elevators across Line 2 and 4. A delivery of replacement parts, including new sensors, was received last week and installation is ongoing.
Next Steps:
Next week, the following activities are planned:
- Ongoing operation of Line 2 and Line 4 to exercise all aspects of daily service, including launch and reduction of trains, maintenance of vehicles and related infrastructure. Service will continue to operate next week with a reduced schedule on Christmas Day
- Ongoing timetable validation
- Ongoing diversion practice and assessment
- Ongoing training and certification of operators
- Ongoing practice and troubleshooting drills with operators
- Ongoing testing and validation of passenger information displays and parts installation for elevators
- Ongoing oversight of TransitNext’s winter maintenance processes and procedures
Overall, system preparations are progressing as planned and weekly updates to Council will continue to be shared. Should you have any questions about the information provided in this memo, please do not hesitate to contact me at extension 52111.
