Celebrate transit operators and workers on March 18

March 18 is Transit Operator and Worker Appreciation Day.

Whether you are travelling to work, school, shopping, an appointment or visiting family and friends, transit staff are working hard to get you there.  

What is Transit Operator and Worker Appreciation Day? 

It’s a day highlighted nationally by the Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA) to acknowledge and give appreciation to transit workers that keep cities moving.  

You might ask, “why March 18? What is so special about that date?”  

Well, on March 18, 1662 the “Five Penny Coaches” line, was officially launched in Paris, France as the first formal public transit created in the world.  

How can I show my appreciation? 

There are many ways you can thank a transit operator or worker: 

Say hi to your operator, thank them in person, or simply wave as they are passing by!
