New devices are being tested on Para Transpo

You may have noticed new tablets on board Para Transpo vehicles recently.

We’re working on bringing new ways to pay to Para Transpo and the first step is having Operators test out the new equipment.

For now, only a few mini buses are part of the test. There is no change to what customers should do or how they should pay.

When we begin to install fare readers on all our Para Transpo vehicles, we’ll share more information about the new ways you can pay for your trip.

No need to reapply for Community pass

Starting September 19, OC Transpo’s Community pass will automatically renew every two years for customers who are signed up. No need to reapply!

Community passes will only expire when a customer reaches the age of 65 or when they are no longer eligible for the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP).

We’ve been working directly with ODSP on this initiative to reduce steps for customers and improve your experience. Customer eligibility will be confirmed by ODSP and OC Transpo staff annually.

The Community pass offers customers registered for ODSP a reduced price for both single-ride fares and monthly passes. It is valid on all OC Transpo bus routes, the O-Train, and for Para Transpo trips.

Canada Infrastructure Bank invests in future zero-emission buses

The Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) has invested $380 million with the City of Ottawa. This is to help finance up to 350 more OC Transpo Zero-Emission Buses (ZEBs) through 2027.

The CIB’s loan will go towards upfront costs of the battery-electric buses. Repayment is expected to be covered through the reduced operating costs over the life of the ZEBs as compared to diesel buses.

This move plays an important part in the City's Climate Change Master Plan and goal to reduce the GHG emissions of City operations by 100% by 2040.
